This beautifully hand-crafted necklace was created to honor Chien-Shiung Wu, a Chinese American particle and experimental physicist who made significant contributions in the fields of nuclear and particle physics. One of Wu’s significant contributions was confirming Enrico Fermi's theory of beta decay. Her book Beta Decay, published in 1965, is still a standard reference for nuclear physicists.
This necklace features the nucleus of a carbon atom, which is a dense and heavy core with a positive charge. When beta decay occurs, one of the protons or neutrons is transformed into the other.
